Dear St. John Family,
February will be a busy month with different opportunities for worship and fellowship. The month begins on the 4th when the chairs of all the various boards and committees meet to do calendar planning for the whole year ahead.
On February 5th our special guest will be Rev. John Schindler. I will be at Our Saviour’s for the annual meeting and luncheon. John will be singing favorite songs and be leading the communion service.
February 19th is Women’s Sunday in the UCC. The theme this year is Thin Places, and the focus is on the Transfiguration of Jesus.
Our special guest will be Rev. Joyce Lawlor. Joyce is a former American Baptist pastor and is a graduate of Andover Newton Seminary in Boston, MA. She recently pastored at Bay View Baptist, and is now a chaplain at St. Luke’s Hospital. We look forward to having Joyce with us on that Sunday.
The Lenten season begins on Ash Wednesday, which is February 22nd. This year the services will be at St. John. On Ash Wednesday, we will have a simple meal at 6:15, and the service will begin at 7:00pm and include music by the combined choirs of St. John and Our Saviour’s, the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion. Wednesday’s during Lent, we will begin with a simple meal at 6:15pm, and at 7:00pm a service that will feature favorite hymns special music and a message by various members of our congregation.
February 25th is our annual Dartball Night. This is always a fun event when members and guests from both churches come together to play dartball and enjoy all the good snacks and fellowship. Who will throw a home run this year?
I hope you will plan to attend these special Sundays and Lenten services. There are opportunities to grow spiritually and support St. John and it’s ministry in Germantown.
God’s best to you,
Pastor Matheny
