Maintenance Committee Update
Earlier this year a request went out from the Maintenance Committee to the Congregation looking for donations totaling approximately $3000.00 (based on a ballpark estimate from one contractor) needed for replacement of at least one of our 25 year old furnaces which had required extensive service work during the past two years. Almost immediately after the request was presented to the Congregation a member or members donated the $3000.00. First and foremost the Maintenance Committee would like to thank the individual/individuals for the wonderful donation.
Now a report on what was done with that donation
First we sought bids from three contractors and the range of the three bids ranged from $2100-$2600 for total installation on furnaces varying between 91% efficiency and 95% efficiency. The committee met and discussed the bids and it was decided to approach one of the contractors –Tom Griner-of Full Service Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. our regular service contractor who actually quoted the most efficient furnace 95% efficiency requesting he take another hard look at his bid and whether or not he could complete the job for under $2000.00. Subsequently, he reduced his bid on the 95% efficiency furnace and completed the job for $1998.00. This was back in May. During the month of May a number of committee members met with a We Energy Advisor and we were informed of rebate opportunities on new furnace installations for non-profit organizations such as St. John. Immediately that same day we applied for the $350.00 rebate from We Energy receiving the check in late June. Now that new furnace cost St. John $1650.00. The committee contacted Tom Griner asking him which furnace would he suggest replacing next, as St. John actually has a total of three furnaces in our building. He was asked if he could install a second new furnace same model as the first one installed and he again agreed to do it for $1998. Moving on to July 25th the second new furnace has been installed and we have applied for the second $350.00 rebate from We Energy as well. So, the original donation actually precipitated in providing two new highly efficient furnaces for St. John at a total out-of-budget cost of only $300.00. This is a great example of what a wonderful donation can mean to a Congregation such as St. John.
Have you noticed the brighter lighting at St. John?
Recently the majority of the fluorescent lighting and exit lights within St. John were replaced with high efficient bulbs and ballasts for a total cost of under $2000.00 which included significant rebates from We Energy. The smart work being done by your Maintenance Committee should pay-off in smaller energy bills and longer lasting bulbs for years to come.
Look forward to hearing about other possible improvement projects at St. John in the future.
Your Maintenance Committee just wanted to keep our membership informed.
